Laying the foundations for major changes – a summary of the preparatory phase of the Wrocław Opera’s modernisation

 Thanks to funding from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Budget amounting to PLN 332,884, we have completed a key stage of preparatory work for the project “Development of the cultural offering and creation of a social activity centre at the Wrocław Opera through the modernisation of the building and the purchase of equipment”.

 The following were carried out using the allocated funds:
 1. A comprehensive assessment of the technical condition: The expert report confirmed the urgent need to repair the roof, façade, window and door frames, and to modernise the surveillance system.
 2. Full design documentation: Detailed plans for the modernisation of the building – the roof, façade, window and door frames – were prepared, as well as a unique design for a viewing terrace on the Opera’s roof.
 3. Specialist stage documentation: A design for the new surface of the main stage was developed.
 4. Public consultations: We held meetings with audience members to adapt our services to people with special needs.
 5. Application documentation: A full application, including annexes, was prepared for the FEnIKS 2021–2027 programme, paving the way for securing EU funding.

Wrocław Opera receives funding for the modernisation of its sound system and public address system

The Wrocław Opera has received funding for the project entitled ‘Modernisation of the sound system, including the Public Address System (PAS) – Phase I’.

 

Total project value: PLN 4,656,018.63
State budget funding (Investment Programme 2025 – specific-purpose grant): PLN 2,787,819.00
Specific-purpose grant from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Local Government: PLN 619,023.90
Wrocław Opera’s own contribution: PLN 465,601.86

 

Scope and description of the investment

As part of the project, the Wrocław Opera will carry out a comprehensive modernisation of key elements of the electroacoustic system, covering both the performance sound system and the Public Address System (PAS), which serves as a fire safety system.

 

The scope of the investment includes, in particular:

  • the purchase and installation of a new auditorium loudspeaker system, ensuring even, natural and clear sound throughout the auditorium,

  • the replacement of the DSP (Digital Signal Processor) integrated with the Public Address System, which controls sound output and evacuation announcements,

  • the purchase of modern sound mixing consoles, enabling multi-channel digital sound production during opera, ballet and concert performances,

  • equipping the Opera with professional microphones and electroacoustic accessories, including studio microphones, instrumental, directional and overhead microphones, essential for amplifying the orchestra, choir and soloists, as well as for sound effects,

  • integration of the new sound system with the venue’s safety infrastructure to ensure clear and reliable voice announcements in emergency situations.

    The outcome of the project will be the restoration of the full technical functionality of the sound system and public address system, as well as a significant improvement in sound quality. The new electroacoustic infrastructure will enable the Wrocław Opera to continue its artistic activities at the highest level, in line with audience expectations and the standards of contemporary stage productions.

 

 

 

Modernisation of the intercom and public address system at the Wrocław Opera

We are delighted to announce that the Wrocław Opera has received funding under the Cultural Infrastructure programme.

 

Scope of work:
1. Purchase and delivery of intercom and monitor TV system equipment, as well as carrying out the necessary work within the building’s structure related to the installation of the stage manager’s system, equipped with the following subsystems:
a) two-way wired and wireless communication,
b) public address system,
c) stage action monitoring,
d) stage action confirmation system,
e) synchronised clocks,
f) stage action monitoring,
g) Building Management System (BMS),
h) smoke extraction damper control system,
i) fire alarm system and SAP control centre.

The project received funding from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (MKIDN) in the amount of PLN 3,248,000.00
The project received funding from the National Development Bank (BWD) in the amount of PLN 747,040.00 to cover VAT on the project.

Funded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Investment Programme.

The project was completed in 2021.

Enhancing the artistic potential of the Wrocław Opera through the purchase of stage equipment.

We are delighted to announce that the Wrocław Opera has received funding under the Cultural Infrastructure programme.

Scope of work:
1. Purchase of a modular wall system to improve the acoustic conditions of the Wrocław Opera stage – 1 set

2. Purchase of technical equipment and workstation equipment for technical workshops and storerooms – 5 sets, including: tool trolleys with a set of power tools – 1 set, A lowering system for kabuki and curtains – 1 set, an ironing set – 1 set, a modular storage set constituting workstation equipment – 2 sets

3. Purchase of modular stage structures – platforms and modular stage structures
enabling the quick and easy installation of technical back-of-house facilities for productions – 1 set

4. Upgrading of electro-acoustic equipment with new multi-track recording devices for the sound department – 1 set

5. Purchase of specialist software for equipping technical teams and for audience promotion and organisation – 3 sets, including: Vector Works Spotlight software with CAD and associated hardware – 1 set, Adobe Master Collections software with Touchdesigner 099 – 1 set, music notation software – 1 set

6. Purchase of a 3D printer to support the technical department

7. Expansion of the exhibition areas for stage materials using multimedia projections and mapping – 1 set

The project received funding from the BWD amounting to PLN 218,960.00
The project received funding from the MKIDN amounting to PLN 460,000.00

Modernisation of the technical and artistic facilities at the Wrocław Opera, including the purchase of instruments

We are pleased to inform you that, pursuant to Agreement No. 08627/18/FPK/DEK dated 16 July 2018 between the Wrocław Opera and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Wrocław Opera has received funding for a project that will significantly improve its technical and artistic facilities. As part of the project, the following tasks will be carried out:

1. Purchase of string instruments and accessories, including 7 violins, 3 cellos and 3 violas
- a total of 13 sets for the needs of the Wrocław Opera

2. Purchase of computer hardware and software to support the Audience Services Department

3. Supply and installation of a building management system, including BMS equipment

 

The project has also received funding from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Budget.

Total project value: PLN 768,750.00, including:              

Value of funding from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage: PLN 500,000.00

Value of funding from the Lower Silesian Province Budget: PLN 268,750.00

 

Funded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Culture Promotion Fund.

The purchase of new instruments, multimedia equipment and lighting fixtures – these are just some of the elements of a project aimed at developing the Wrocław Opera.

Following the award of a grant for the project entitled ‘Improving the functionality of the Wrocław Opera’, the following tasks are planned in relation to the development, modernisation and upgrading of equipment:

  1. Design documentation for the refurbishment of the façade of the Wrocław Opera building
    2. Design documentation for the modernisation of the intercom system and the public address system in the Wrocław Opera building
    3. Purchase of instruments for the Wrocław Opera
    4. Creation of two specialist computer workstations in the audience services department
    5. Supply of two vehicles: a passenger car and a passenger-van, to ensure the proper functioning of the Wrocław Opera
    6. Installation of an access control system for designated rooms at the Wrocław Opera
    7. Re-equipping the Wrocław Opera’s costume workshop
    8. Modernisation of the server room and IT system security at the Wrocław Opera
    9. Purchase of a multimedia system for displaying subtitles
    10. Purchase of lighting equipment and a multimedia projector to expand the Wrocław Opera’s existing lighting inventory
    11. Purchase of projection sets for multimedia presentations, together with other components, to support the promotion department by providing modern multimedia equipment for archiving artistic activities
    12. Purchase of wind and percussion instruments for the Wrocław Opera
    13. Furnishing of workshops and art studios, including equipment 

    14. Supply of microphones for the Wrocław Opera
    15. Supply of an electroacoustic system for the Wrocław Opera’s rehearsal room
    16. Refurbishment of the Wrocław Opera’s wig-making workshop
    17. Refurbishment of the air-conditioning and ventilation system at the Wrocław Opera

    The project received funding from the BWD amounting to PLN 719,883.22
    The project received funding from the MKIDN amounting to PLN 3,254,700.00

The Wrocław Opera, with funding from the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Budget

In connection with the application for funding under the project ‘Extension of the Wrocław Opera House and purchase of equipment’, the Lower Silesian Province Budget has supported the Wrocław Opera House by awarding a specific-purpose grant for the preparation of pre-implementation analyses under agreement no. DS.-K/33/2017

 

Wrocław Opera receives new funding

We are delighted to announce that the Provincial Budget has allocated PLN 100,000.00 to support a project aimed at expanding the instrument collection of the Wrocław Opera. The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage has allocated PLN 400,000.00 for the same purpose.

As part of the Cultural Infrastructure Programme, the Wrocław Opera is implementing the project: ‘Purchase of instruments and accessories for the Wrocław Opera orchestra required to realise new repertoire plans’. The Provincial Budget has allocated PLN 100,000.00 for this purpose. Under agreement DS.-K/195/2017 dated 25 July 2017, in accordance with Resolution No. XXXIV/1145.17 of the Lower Silesian Provincial Assembly, this project received funding from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (MKiDN) in the amount of PLN 400,000.00

The following instruments were purchased as part of the project:

Woodwinds: 4 clarinets, 2 oboes, 2 flutes.
Total woodwinds: 8 instruments.
Brass instruments: 1 tuba, 2 French horns with a set of mutes and mouthpieces.
Total brass instruments and sets: 3

Percussion instruments: Tamtam – 1 set, marimba – 1
String instruments: harpsichord – 1
Total string instruments: 1
Thai Gongs – 1 set
1 tambourine
Total number of all instruments and sets: 16.

We have received funding for the project ‘Extension of the Wrocław Opera House and purchase of equipment’

We are delighted to announce that the project ‘Extension of the Wrocław Opera House and purchase of equipment’ (No. POIS.08.01.00-00-0115/7) has been approved by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

Submitted as part of the competitive procedure under Priority Axis VIII ‘Protection of cultural heritage and development of cultural resources’ of the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme for 2014–2020, the project ranked a very high 2nd place on the list of all submitted projects. As a result, it has received funding of PLN 10,960,843.15 from the European Regional Development Fund. The main objective of the project is to develop and improve the condition of cultural infrastructure of supra-regional significance and to increase access to culture through the expansion of the Wrocław Opera, including the purchase of equipment. The project is valued at PLN 16,015,349.82. It will also receive funding from the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship amounting to PLN 4,788,617.89. The project is included in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship’s territorial contract.

The aim of the project is to expand the Opera’s infrastructure by constructing a building that will be connected to the existing building via an underground passage.


Product objectives incorporated into the project:
•adapting the technical and artistic facilities of the Wrocław Opera to the needs and scale of its operations, as well as to applicable norms and standards,
•creating the conditions for the development of cultural and educational activities and for enriching the Wrocław Opera’s programme with new artistic productions,
•enhancing the technical and organisational capabilities required to stage more elaborate productions,
•streamlining the work of individuals and organisations involved in staging performances,
•improving the quality of organised events and functions,
•supporting the modernisation and increasing the accessibility of the Wrocław Opera’s infrastructure,
•creating new spaces for cultural and educational activities,
•ensuring the functionality of the newly created spaces,
•the creation of storage facilities, backstage workshops and rehearsal rooms,
•adapting the infrastructure to the needs of people with disabilities.

Improving the conditions for cultural activities by modernising the technical facilities, including the stage facilities, at the Wrocław Opera

The project “Improving conditions for cultural activities through the modernisation of technical facilities, including stage facilities, at the Wrocław Opera” is being implemented under the Operational Programme “Infrastructure and Environment 2014–2020”, Priority VIII “Protection of cultural heritage and development of cultural resources”
Measure 8.1: Protection of cultural heritage and development of cultural resources.

The main objective of the project is to enhance the development of cultural resources as venues for the presentation of cultural heritage by modernising the technical facilities, including the stage facilities, of the Wrocław Opera.

The implementation of the project will enable the technical facilities to be brought into line with current standards and regulations, as well as the expectations and needs of the audience, and will enrich the Wrocław Opera’s programme with new artistic projects and stage technology workshops. The planned outcomes also include:
1. An increase in the expected number of visits to supported sites belonging to the cultural and natural heritage and constituting tourist attractions
2. The number of people using the supported facilities
3. An increase in employment in supported entities (other than enterprises)

Decision on funding from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage

The Wrocław Opera has received a decision from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage granting funding for the project ‘Improving conditions for cultural activities through the modernisation of technical facilities, including the stage facilities of the Wrocław Opera’, submitted under Measure 8.1 ‘Protection of cultural heritage and development of cultural resources’ under the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme 2014–2020. The total value of the entire project is nearly PLN 7 million.

The project was carried out under contract no. 05453/16/ FPK/DEK dated 24 June 2016 as part of the ‘Development of cultural infrastructure / cultural infrastructure’ programme, funded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and from the budget of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.
