Romeo and Juliet

Sergei Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet is a classic of the ballet repertoire. Alongside Pyotr Tchaikovsky's ballets, Romeo and Juliet is a key figure in the history of ballet. The music places this work on the threshold of modernity, offering the opportunity for a variety of interpretations. This work is a test of the choreographer's artistic maturity. Every choreographer, sooner or later, grapples with this theme. Choreographer Jacek Tyski has successfully tackled the subject of fatal attraction in the past. Shakespearean themes are also close to his heart – he told the story of Hamlet in a choreography of the same name for the Polish National Ballet. This love story will gain its next stage incarnation in his approach. This ballet premiered at the Wrocław Opera in 2018 and returns to the theatre's repertoire this spring.
