Lecture by Prof. Michał Witt Ahead of the Premiere of GenOM

This coming Saturday, September 5, marks the world premiere of  GenOM — an opera with music by Michał Ziółkowski and a libretto by Justyna Miguła. On the day of the premiere, we cordially invite you to arrive at the Wrocław Opera early—at 6:00 p.m. In the theater foyer, Prof. Michał Witt will give a lecture on the connections between genetics and music. It is worth noting that the professor’s lecture, titled Genes and Music, served as the inspiration for the opera’s libretto. 

Prof. Michał Witt

A Polish geneticist, molecular biologist, and professor of medical sciences. He is a specialist in clinical genetics and laboratory medical genetics, as well as a pediatrician. He was elected a member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (in 2021). He spent most of his professional life at the Institute of Human Genetics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Poznań. He also served as deputy director for scientific affairs at the International Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology in Warsaw (1999–2015). He served as scientific editor of the "Journal of Applied Genetics" (2001–2022). He is a member of several scientific councils at institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Since 2020, he has served as chair of the Committee on Human Genetics and Molecular Pathology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (his term will end in 2028). He is the author and co-author of approximately 200 scientific papers and the editor of several books, including "Molecular Haematology" (Springer, 2009). A passionate music lover and record collector, he adores the old Chopin recordings by Józef Hofmann and Ignacy Friedman, Carlos Kleiber’s interpretations of Brahms’s and Beethoven’s symphonies, and Mahler’s symphonies conducted by Rafael Kubelik.
